Details:

The total solar eclipse of 1 August 2008 was visible from a track starting near the northernmost sections of Canada, over the northern arctic then through Siberia and into China. I chose to head to Novosibirsk, Siberia, in the Russian Federation. The location had a better than 50% chance of clear skies for the time of year, and this proved to be accurate. With rains that morning, and that evening(!), the moments of the actual eclipse were crystal clear.

I brought with me the following equipment:
